It all started, at the young age of 8, when I began working in the family business as a mechanic and fabricator. As a mechanic, I learned to pull things apart, and put them back together again and thus learned the inner workings of engines, gear boxes and drivetrains. It was this exposure to the mechanical machinery that initially influenced my style of artwork, and is still evident to date. At age 8 I was taught to weld, working as a metal fabricator, I learned the basic skills and understanding of how to make things from scratch through various processes, such as cutting and welding metal or machining on the lathe or milling machine. After the work was done, I would raid my father's scrap bins looking for parts that would spark my imagination and as I dug for my treasures, I would wonder how I could repurpose those discarded materials and re-use them in a different creative light. This part of my life gave me the passion and skill for building things, however, it was through our joint family hobby of go-karting that lead my artwork down the track I am on now and got me to where I am today. My first sculpture was a replica of my go-kart that I built to thank one of my sponsors in my early years of racing. This sculpture was built from recycled bottom end bearings, spark plugs, chain, and various bolts and nuts, essentially built out of all of the things that my sponsor helped fund during my race season. This gift to him was my unique way to say thank you. From there, I got requests to build sculptures for other people, whether it be as a “thank-you” to their sponsors, or for birthday gifts, or unique conversation pieces for their offices. Before I knew it, word of mouth spread and I had regular commissions. With each sculpture came a new idea to take my artwork further than it had ever previously been.
Growing up in country Victoria, Australia, in a rural farming area, my earlier work was influenced more by trucks, tractors and earth moving machinery, although this evolved as time went on, and my love for racing led to me build more cars and motor bikes. As my portfolio expanded so did the range of sculpture requests I received from clients. This led me to build almost anything and everything, from the Eiffel Tower, to horses, sail boats, Transformers, Iron Man, and more recently into sports memorabilia such as jerseys and iconic basketball shoes. I now realize, there is almost no limit to what I am able to build and I enjoy the challenges that come from each new client and each new commission and seeing just how far my artwork can truly go.
What I offer my Client's are custom one-of-one sculptures built referencing client's photographs. There are many levels to my artwork in terms of what I can offer, whether it is a more mechanical raw metal style sculpture, or a more refined and painted piece of art. I offer shipping to anywhere in the world. Browse my galleries on this website to see samples of some of my past work and you can get an idea of what I can build for you.
